Sweet Malakai







On October 15, 2010 at 4:28 p.m. we welcomed Mr. Malakai Michael Riley into this world and into our hearts. He weighed in at 7 lbs 7 oz and 18.5 inches. Mama had to have an urgent C-section as the pregnancy began to wear on my body and it was time for baby to come out. That was a little bit of drama but as soon as he was here all my worries went away. Daddy got to hold him first and was in love from the moment he laid eyes on his boy. I was pretty helpless the couple days after the delivery so Chad took over and did everything- minus the breastfeeding. :) I didn't have to change a diaper until we were home! Watching my husband, the man I have loved for 10 years, love and care for our son has made me fall into such a deep, profound love for him, it is something I cannot put into words and definitely never thought I could love him more than I already did!

Kai is such an alert baby and has been since day one! He is so curious and just wants to know more and more about our world. He laughs and smiles and blesses us everyday with his joyful disposition on life. He loves his baths, which is fitting because his name "Kai" means- from the ocean in Hawaiian. He goes about 5-6 hours at night before getting us up. We are happy it isn't every couple hours like the horror stories we heard before he was born! My husband is awesome, he brings baby to me to eat then he changes his diaper, swaddles him, and rocks him back to sleep. Malakai and I are blessed to have a hands on, hardworking, loving leader of our family.

We celebrated our first halloween as a threesome, Daddy carved two awesome pumpkins while Malakai drifted into a nice nap while sitting on the island "helping" his dad. His costume, as you can see above, was WAY to big but hey, he loved it and thought he looked awesome! We are so excited to see how he grows and what kind of boy, and eventually man, he grows to be. He is one month old today! Well, the baby monitor is blowing up, I can hear him waking and getting anxious to be fed, so I'm off to my new routine. Life has changed, but completely for the better :) Take care and thanks for all of the love, support, prayers and gifts! We have the most amazing friends and family in the world! xoxox

    AW!! Rachel, this is beautiful. It definitely brought tears to my eyes. It is such a blessing to watch you and Chad and Kai grow into such a loving family. He is the best gift in the world and I am so proud to be with the Riley family during this very exciting time of your lives. I love you all. I love the blog and I love the pictures of the world's sweetest and most adorable baby.

    Watching you grow as a Mother has been such a blessing to whtness. As soon as he was born and before he was born you were in mommy mode and glowing. You are amazing with him and so is Chad! So happy for you all.

I am feeling inspired today! I love making homemade baby food for my beautiful boy! I really can't say enough about the huge advantage making your own baby food is. The price alone is an immediate seller. I buy organic, locally grown produce and spend about 15-25 dollars which lasts me at least a month. If we were buying the same amount of jarred organic baby food we would be spending about 100 dollars a month. Big difference! I also love knowing exactly what goes in my son's (cute) little tummy. No preservatives, no food dye, and no processed food for him. Another big plus is that I can introduce him to flavors and foods that are unique and typically not found in your average baby food. Currently, I am steaming some yams, zucchini, chicken, green beans and rosemary-all certified organic and yummy of course. I call it "R oast Chicken Dinner" - fancy huh? Time is rolling on and life is rolling right along with it! Yesterday was our official 1 month anniversary, it seems so small compared to 8 years of loving each other but still, celebrating never gets old! Rachel started her new job yesterday as a perioperative RN and UCI. I have never seen/ been a part of a more amazing hospital and the benefits are incredible, by far the best hospital around! I feel blessed to be a part of their periop team. We have a robot called The DaVinci that surgeons use to preform Urological surgeies ! It's a little overwhelming but we will learn and we will be great Rn's once we are done with our training program. This is a picture of my homemade pizza. The dough was even homemade ! It was a 2 hour event, I got a little stressed attempting to flatten the dough out after we had already flattened and then balled it up again. Note: After you roll the dough out DONT start over, just keep it flat, folding it over onto itself is a disaster...

When the Poop Hits the Fan- LITERALLY!

Day 4 in the bag! Phew, barely. Today was too classic not to blog about, so hopefully it brings a smile to your face. :) Woke up this morning with serious tummy issues only to find both Elijah and Jameson feeling under the weather.  Cancelled our Thursday playdate and we lounged around hydrating and just taking it easy (OK they were taking it easy, me, on the other hand, that's a joke. I am a mom of 3 littles after all. I was playing Mommy Nurse). Around 11 we sat down to do school. Now, Elijah's participation is hit and miss, which I completely expected.  He is always game for music time (he is a dancing king after all) and game time. But today he decided he wanted to join for all of it.  So little Mister with his pensive mind asked "Why?" only 80 gazillion times today.  We stopped and had a snack every 10 minutes (Elijah is my hungry boy after all) and a few water breaks (thirsty boy too).
