When the Poop Hits the Fan- LITERALLY!
Day 4 in the bag! Phew, barely. Today was too classic not to blog about, so hopefully it brings a smile to your face. :)
Woke up this morning with serious tummy issues only to find both Elijah and Jameson feeling under the weather. Cancelled our Thursday playdate and we lounged around hydrating and just taking it easy (OK they were taking it easy, me, on the other hand, that's a joke. I am a mom of 3 littles after all. I was playing Mommy Nurse). Around 11 we sat down to do school. Now, Elijah's participation is hit and miss, which I completely expected. He is always game for music time (he is a dancing king after all) and game time. But today he decided he wanted to join for all of it. So little Mister with his pensive mind asked "Why?" only 80 gazillion times today. We stopped and had a snack every 10 minutes (Elijah is my hungry boy after all) and a few water breaks (thirsty boy too). Get my drift? Lots of breaks and pauses with him around. I prayed for patience a few extra times then normal today.
Today was also the first day I had all 3 kids awake the entire time we did school. As long as I shove food in Jamie's mouth, he is quiet. For 10 seconds. Maybe 30 if I give him a tray full of goods. So, yep, it was interesting having him in the mix as he refused to take a long nap (thanks to 2 diaper blowouts in nap time. I don't blame the kid.) Once he got to his breaking point I picked him up and went on with my teaching. A few minutes later Elijah says, "Mom, what is that stuff on your arm?" Look down and what do you know? Jamie's {somewhat} digested snacks I had used as a decoy to get homeschool done had landed all over my wrist and nice, expensive Fitbit Charge that is NOT water proof (or doo-doo proof as Kai reminded me later). I quickly tell the kids to enjoy a short recess outside, changed J.J, set him in his walker and cleaned myself and my Fitbit off. Phew! "Come on back in boys". A couple minutes later Malakai asks, "Mom, what is that smell?!" Yep- you guessed it. All over my sweet 10 month old and his seat. Classic.
3rd time we have had a stomach bug this summer. Not cool! But in all seriousness, the kids did great with all the distractions and we got through the day eventually. But to hear the boys say their memory verse by heart and to hear Malakai name me the continents, that does my body good. So good. This is why I do it. When I get to see the fruit- like seeing the idea of creation click in their little minds, that is everything to me! I have been called crazy several times by several people for choosing to stay home and keep my kids with me. And ya, days like today I think I am a little nutty. Would I change it? Not even a little. So I hope I can encourage you all to keep up the good work, whatever that may be. Your reality looks different then mine which is what makes the world a special place. Keep your head up on those days where things don't go as planned because, really- it's not that big of a deal. Keep on keeping on, my friends!
One of our assignments was to write a warning letter to "Reddy Fox" from our story. He dictated, I wrote. Pretty good for a 4 year old. :)

Phew! Some days, being a mommy is really, really tough! I love how you are able to see the humor in it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a VERY good letter for a 4 year old! Good job!
Hopefully you're getting all the bugs/viruses out of the way now, so you can have a GREAT, healthy school year! :)
That is a good letter for a four year old! My five year old looks at me like I'm crazy when I ask him to do those activities!
ReplyDeleteLol, I love your letter! Looks like you have quite the crew! Thanks for linking up at HOD weekly check in.
ReplyDeleteWow! Hang in there mama :) We've been quite healthy for a while now and I'm all prepared for the winter blahs and sickness which comes with it! It's great once the kids start getting a little older and they don't seem to get quite as sick quite so often :) Glad you still had a good week with HOD!
