6 Months of Bliss
"So much time, so little to do! Strike that reverse it!"- This is said many times a week in the Riley home. It just so happens to be a very famous line from Kai's most favorite movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the original, of course!). Life is so busy, fun, hectic, loud, exciting and joyous these days. Here is a quick little update on each of us in the Riley Household:
Chad/The Bread Winner/ Love/ Hero/ and Hopeful Head of the House (I say hopeful because often the pants are put on by Mama Bear)- Chad has been working very hard and will be taking over as lead electrician for Signal Hill Petroleum at the end of March! We are so grateful for such an awesome opportunity. Chad loves almost every minute of work and is proud of himself for this accomplishment at the ripe age of 27 (although almost hardly ever gives himself any credit). When he gets home from work he is put to work by his loving and quite bossy 2 year old. They wrestle, play cars, trains, monsters, hide and seek etc. We are finally starting our backyard project which will consist of us (mostly him) breaking up the concrete, tearing out all the grass and starting fresh. First step starts this weekend. We are hoping to have new concrete, grass area and a small garden ready for enjoyment this summer! Wish us luck!
Malakai/ Terrible-I -Mean-Terrific-Two-Year-Old/ World's Best Big Brother/ Apple of My Eye- What an interesting/ extremely exciting time we are having with Kai right now. Above is a picture of his 2nd birthday party in October. We thoroughly enjoyed the holidays with him, he loved learning about Baby Jesus and Santa. Christmas practically blew the kids mind, he couldn't fathom all the lights, presents, sweets and fun. He was in his glory! He enjoys playing with his cars, trains, and going to the park. He talks up a storm! He loves going to Sunday School and daycare at my Woman's Bible Study. He is very interested in learning how to color, paint, and play with playdoh. We are working with him a bit on numbers and colors and shapes. He loves his little brother and can't give him enough kisses and loves. He is very sassy and bossy and experimenting with "talking back" to us. It can be trying but time-outs work like a charm, for a few minutes at least. Upcoming events for Kai are swimming lessons (again) and hopefully a trip out to see Mimi and Pa in Hawaii with Mom and Elijah.
Elijah/ Mama's Boy/ Sweetest Spirit/ Blessing/ Joy,Joy,Joy!- Wow, this boy is 6 months old today! Time is going by so fast. He is quite a large boy which makes it rather hard for him to move around. Kai was crawling at this point and Elijah can barely sit unassisted for half a second. What a difference in the two! I love that he isn't mobile yet, it is making my life a LOT easier. He eats one homemade baby food meal a day and nurses the rest of the day. He has two bottom teeth now! Crazy, right?! He hasn't fussed much at all through the whole teething process, just a lot of drool and fists in the mouth. He uses his voice all the time and is LOUD! I don't blame him, between the three of us it's hard to get a word in edgewise! He happily puts himself to sleep for his naps and bedtime and loves to cuddle with Mommy when he wakes up in the morning (My early riser gets up around 7 everyday, giving us a good hour or so before Kai gets up). He loves to watch Kai and doesn't even fuss when being sat on or smooshed with kisses and hugs. He will be joining Kai in swimming lessons next month, yay! Elijah Thomas is an absolute joy to Chad and I, we are very blessed with two loving, easy, kind children.
Rachel/ Me/ Almost-Stay-at-Home-Mom/ Comforter/ Teacher- What can I say, I have the best job in the world! I get to stay home with my babies 6 days a week, and go be a nurse every Monday. A little getaway for me, and a chance to keep up my nursing skills and see all my awesome friends at work. I love it! Currently, because of the holiday I had 2 weeks off. It's been awesome and so good for the boys to have Mama home with them. Chad and I have been eating clean and exercising for the past two weeks and have noticed an improvement in not just our weight but in the way we feel. We are really loving jogging together after work and the boys love being out in the fresh air with us. No fad dieting or crazy starvation here, I am still nursing Elijah several times a day and need those calories to keep my milk supply up. We are just eating well and limiting the processed and fatty foods. Seeing the results proves we are doing it right! My mom comes into town Monday and I am looking forward to spending time with her and hopefully making a plan to go to Hawaii sometime in the next 4 monthsish.
That's about it, I am going to try to get a few things done around the house while the boys are still asleep. Wish me luck! xoxo
