Feeling Inspired!

I am feeling inspired today! I love making homemade baby food for my beautiful boy! I really can't say enough about the huge advantage making your own baby food is. The price alone is an immediate seller. I buy organic, locally grown produce and spend about 15-25 dollars which lasts me at least a month. If we were buying the same amount of jarred organic baby food we would be spending about 100 dollars a month. Big difference! I also love knowing exactly what goes in my son's (cute) little tummy. No preservatives, no food dye, and no processed food for him. Another big plus is that I can introduce him to flavors and foods that are unique and typically not found in your average baby food. Currently, I am steaming some yams, zucchini, chicken, green beans and rosemary-all certified organic and yummy of course. I call it "Roast Chicken Dinner"- fancy huh? I will then dish them into my BPA free ice cube holders and freeze. After that, I'll make yams, peaches, pears and cinnamon; peaches and bananas; yams, green beans and chicken etc. I will have enough to fill three ice cube containers that will go in the freezer and a few bowls that I will refrigerate and give to him in the next few days. Yes, this process does require about 2 hours of my day set aside to peeling, cutting and mainly just waiting for the food to steam. I use a Beaba Baby Cook which I absolutely LOVE! It makes life SO easy, it steams and grinds the food using the same machine. I usually choose a day when I need to catch up on laundry and then just bang everything out. The best thing about it is that after today, I don't need to worry about it for a month! Now, Kai is almost 8 months old and his diet is definitely growing and expanding and of course I am not so extreme as to not buy him any baby snacks. He has baby organic yogurt, Plum Organics Puff snacks, and baby teething biscuits on occasion. Kai also gets either Ella's Kitchen or Plum Organics baby food when we are out or traveling. It won't kill him, of course, but I am happy to give him a fresh, unprocessed meal as often as possible. I am not trying to preach or toot my own horn here, I am definitely a lacking Mother in many ways- example- I DO NOT CD or "cloth diaper". I get how "green" and inexpensive it is I just have no interest in it. To each it's own, right? So, what's on the menu next month? I'm thinking fish, lamb and quinoa as some new ingredients to try out...
Here I am 4 hours after I began this post... the life of a Mother. Needless to say, Malakai loved his dinner and needed a bath desperately after getting it all over his face (and chest... and hands...and hair...) I'm off for some slumber, I have a open heart case early in the am. I recently moved to working 12 hour days which gives me the luxury of only working 3 days a week and having 4 days off with my bubs. Although I miss him when I am gone, I really enjoy what I do and I love being able to help support my family and do nice things on occasion. I'd love to hear your feedback on baby food or anything for that matter, recipes are not only welcomed they are needed, and if you have don't have anything to add, well, maybe a hello? Anyone? Any faithful followers? Besides you mom? ;) Well, if you are out there, love to you and make your day an exceptionally great one, do something inspiring and most of all live for what you believe in! xoxo
